WOLF
An exploration of the Wolf Mandelbrot Set and two different Wolf Julia Sets.
All originals here are in Amiga 768x480 HAM6 graphics mode with up to 256
colors. The GIFs are faithful reproductions. I also rendered these as
24-bit images, but the 256-color HAM6 images look the best. These are
Hi-Res HAM6 so only loadable as HAM6 (from the SETIFF group) on an AGA
Amiga. Count values for original renderings were 1024 or 2048 and were
not reduced for final presentations - something which is only applicable
to FractalPro's 24-bit images.
Here I explored a fractal formula which I developed during the creation of
FractalPro. It has transcendental functions in it which results in very
long rendering times and the repeating, rather than 'closed' (like a
polynommial formula Mandelbrot Set).

P12 - P15 zooming in on a different Wolf Julia Set
The Wolf Mandelbrot set is first shown at very low magnification (actually,
for FractalPro, this is a demagnification by 4) to reveal the repeating
pattern. Eventually I encountered the image in P05 which I named
THE GREAT WAVE. Take a look at P05 carefully and compare it to the
plate in Mandelbrot's book 'The Fractal Geometry of Nature' which shows
a famous Japanese woodcut by the artist, Hokusai, entitled 'The Great Wave'.
I was startled by the similarities and when I first saw P05 I went hunting
through Mandelbrot's book immediately as I knew I'd seen something like
it before - and, sure enough! Mandelbrot showed that woodcut as an example
of 'fractal-like' foam and my P05 THE GREAT WAVE is remarkably reminiscent
of that woodcut images from a long long time ago. My 'THE GREAT WAVE' has
rich 'psychedelic' colors and a strange set of foamy wave crests. This
one picture has been the most amazing one I've found - and I had to look
in a fractal formula of my own creation.
My P05 picture, THE GREAT WAVE, is Copyright 1991 by Daniel Wolf, with
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED worldwide. It may not be reproduced without permission.
Upon zooming further you can see the odd Christmas-tree-like structures at
the ends of the 'arms' of my creation.
Total magnification from P00 to P07 is only 16384.
The Wolf Julia Sets shown in P08 - P11 and P12 - P15 are also first shown
as demagnified to reveal their repeating nature and then explored by
zooming to reveal their internal structures.
